Investigators are probing a fire at the Ministry of Public Health yesterday morning which left minor damage to the washroom area of the personnel department.
It was just after six hours when a ministry driver entered the compound and saw the billowing smoke.
Ramdeo Kuarpaul told this publication that he was scheduled to pick up a staff member hence his presence at the location.
After alerting the security on duty, Kuarpaul immediately grabbed a bucket of water and threw it on the visible flames.
By this time firefighters arrived on the scene with three tenders, however, they did not have to go into firefighting mode.
After gaining access to the washroom they found that the fire may have been caused as a result of the ventilation fan being left on. However that theory is still to be confirmed by investigators.
Only the PVC ceiling was seriously damaged from the heat of the blaze.
On July 17, 2009 fire of arsonist nature destroyed the then Ministry of Health building in the same compound.
An investigation into this latest incident is ongoing. (Story by Nakaisa Logan NCN News)
