DEAR EDITOR,
“The Learner Driver programme” is the first step to becoming a licensed driver; this is critical, so why not do it the right way?
Throughout many years, we have been well aware of the ongoing licence fraud, but now it truly is in the spotlight. I do hope we can all step forward and stop this dilemma. And make adjustments to our current training system.
Why not improve and create a sound foundation for proposed drivers?
These programs are aimed to encourage the development of safe driving techniques, road law knowledge and car components which are vital.
I must commend the turnout of young drivers and the increased ratio of female drivers. The number of women drivers has grown considerably since the 1970s, and has had a positive impact on changing social norms. However, I do believe that more could be done to improve the lectures – perhaps equipping the officers with the necessary tools as simple as a power point slides to demonstrate basic driving concepts.
In the modern era of technology, chalk and blackboard wouldn’t cut it. I do recall, upon attending, the traffic officer drawing diagrams to explain and demonstrate driving concepts. The evolution of technology is beneficial to humans in many forms, for several reasons, including improved communication and convenience in education, efficiency and productivity. These are just a few.
Improvising the use of simple technology (Computer and projector) could have gone a long way. More could have been done, as simple as it sounds. Prevention is always deemed better than cure. While we are at it fixing the crooked cop system, fix the educational system, they go hand in hand.
These are our future drivers; let’s make the roadways safe and significantly improve accident rates. More can be done to enhance driving skills.
