A reward of $200,000 has been offered for anyone with information about the suspect who raped a Berbice octogenarian on Sunday.
The 85-year-old woman who is bedridden was left in shock after an unidentified man broke into her home and brutally attacked her.
What she never expected was that someone would sexually assault her.
As she recounted the horrifying details of that night, she became emotional and stated that during the ordeal she was knocked unconscious. She disclosed that after the suspect had done his awful deed, “he disappeared and gone”.
After the intruder left, she began to shout for her son who lives nearby.
Her grandson divulged that he heard his grandmother calling out to him at approximately 4:00 am Sunday,
“When I go over, she told me what happened, she was in pain, blood was in her eyes, the whole place was in blood and her body was in a lot of pain.”
The relatives of the woman are accusing the ranks at the Whim Police Station of acting in an unprofessional manner while dealing with the matter. The son explained that he showed up at the police station at approximately 6:00 hrs on Sunday to make a report but was told, “We will take care of it.”
He was sent away with the assurance by the police that they will visit.
“I come home waiting and they come till around 12:00 hrs and they came and took her to the hospital and the doctor do a medical examination.”
He said the following day, he went back to the Whim Police Station when he was told by the ranks, “I have to take my grandmother to the police station to make the report, so I said if I didn’t go, I wouldn’t have known because when I went the first time, I gave them my number and nobody called me.”
The young man also claimed that his father was chased from the police station.
“He was only standing and waiting on us.”
Meanwhile, since the incident, one of the woman’s sons who returned from the United States revealed that his mother is still very traumatised and in much pain.
He added that, “the police is doing nothing, nothing whatsoever!”
Persons with information that may lead to the capture of the suspect can contact the victim’s relatives on numbers 689-7525 or 347-720-4854.
