Cleveland Williams, 46, yesterday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Judy Latchman to answer a charge of attempted murder. The accused resided at 70 D’Urban Street, Lodge and worked at the popular HJ water world as a maintenance guy.
The charge read that on April 17, at D’Urban Street, Lodge, Williams unlawfully and maliciously wounded Loshanna Boyce with intent to commit murder. The two previously shared a relationship and have a two-year-old daughter, whom she had just dropped to school when the incident took place.
According to Police Prosecutor, Arvin Moore, the accused attacked Boyce with a knife and dealt her several stabs in her back.
The incident was said to have escalated from an argument between Boyce and the accused after he had confronted her about some snacks she was supposed to collect from him for their daughter. Cleveland Williams denied that he had stabbed her intentionally and claimed that he took out the knife during the altercation and they ended up in the trench while fighting. He further stated that he had just slapped her and then his family came out to part them.
He was previously issued a restraining order against Boyce due to domestic abuse. The police prosecutor objected to bail being granted on the grounds of the serious nature of the offence and the fact that it is a prevalent crime against females currently.
Bail was refused to the accused and he was remanded to prison. His next court appearance will be May 4, 2018.
