The Central Housing and Planning Authority, (CH&PA) is working to complete the construction of over two hundred units by the end of June 2018.
According to statement issued by the (CH&PA), several types of housing units are under construction at Perseverance Housing Scheme on the East Bank of Demerara.
These include 40 duplexes which will yield 80 units; 60 single elevated units; 18 two-bedroom bungalows, 20 two bedrooms and 20 three-bedroom units.
At Onderneeming on the West Bank of Demerara, 10 single elevated units are under construction while another 20 single elevated units are under construction at Hope/Experiment, West Coast Berbice.
At this point, the CH&PA said that more than three hundred applicants have been prequalified by financial institutions for housing units with close to one hundred being allocated a unit.
At Amelia’s Ward, Linden, the Housing Department said too there are infrastructure works completed for the building of sixty housing units.
“The agency is currently going through the process of pre-qualifying contractors. Construction of these housing units is scheduled to commence in two weeks.”
To further meet the housing needs of the populace, the CH&PA in the last quarter of 2018 will be constructing housing units at a cost of $4 million.
The department also commended the work of its partner, Food for the Poor Guyana Incorporated, for its effort to deliver relief to the poor and needy by being integrally involved in the housing drive through the provision of safe and secure shelter for underprivileged families.
“However, in our drive to improve the housing sector, the Central Housing and Planning Authority has embarked on several initiatives, which include the allocation of serviced lots and the construction of housing units for low-income, youth and state employees.
To this end, we have partnered with other state agencies, the private sector and non-governmental organisations like Food for the Poor Guyana Incorporated to bring these projects to realization,” the CH&PA said in the statement.
