Guyana’s female 200m record holder (22.99 seconds), Brenessa Thompson who is overseas based, continues to excel in the 2018 outdoor season with another win on the college circuit, this time in the 100m final at the Rafer Johnson/ Jackie Joiner-Kersey invitational, hosted by UCLA at Drake Stadium, Los Angeles, California.
Thompson, who represented Guyana at the Rio Olympics in 2016, ran 11.37 seconds to finish finished ahead of college mate Amber Ivy who sprinted in with 11.46 seconds for a second place finish, while Jessica Maduka was third with 11.88 second for third.
The star who has aspiration of representing Guyana at the 2020 Tokyo, Japan Olympics, followed up her win last month at the Arizona State Baldy Castillo Invitational in the 100m final after clocking 11.45seconds, three tenths off her personal best time of 11.14 which was set at the National Track and Field Facility (NTFF), Leonora in 2016.
At the UCLA invitational, Thompson couldn’t stay away from the limelight as she was also part of Texas A&M’s successful 4×100 relay team that ran a season best of 43.26 seconds to defeat a USA all-star crew that finished second in 43.81, with hosts, UCLA third at 44.56. Texas’ team included Amber Ivy, Diamond Spaulding, Thompson and Julia Madubuike, while the all-star squad consisted of Aaliyah Brown, Allyson Felix, Destinee Brown and Kendall Baisden.
