Guyana’s three-man Boxing contingent comprising of fighters Keeve Allicock and Colin ‘Superman’ Lewis along with Manager/Coach Sebert Blake are reportedly stranded in the Guangzhou after missing their connecting flight to the Chinese capital of Beijing, en route home following their participation in the XXI Commonwealth games in the Gold Coast, Australia which concluded on Sunday.
Head of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle, in an invited comment to Kaieteur Sport, noted that the reason for them missing their flight was due to an issue with their travelling visa. This information was first received by Ninvalle from a colleague and attempts to contact the Manager/Coach of the team were to no avail.
The GBA boss explained that this information was also confirmed by Treasurer of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), Garfield Wiltshire, who moments after speaking with Ninvalle, told Kaieteur Sport that he didn’t have any information pertaining to the Boxers being stranded in China.
The GOA was responsible for organising the necessary travel arrangements for the entire Guyana team at the Gold Coast games.
Up to press time, Ninvalle shared with Kaieteur Sport that he has contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who’s Director of Protocol, Ivan Evelyn, made immediate intervention to expedite the Boxers’ safe return home.
