Briton John, Niles, Jamal Coppel & Tiexeira emulates
Team Coco’s Hamza Eastman has continued to enjoy a fine season when he outwitted the field to add the 8th annual Powerade 46-miler on the West Demerara yesterday to his list of triumphs so far this year.
The multi talented Eastman took the event in One Hour 40 Minutes 25.93 Seconds, outmuscling Paul De Nobrega (Digicel Team Evolution), Cortis Dey (Trojan &PSL) and Jamaul John (Team Coco’s) in a four-way sprint to the line. The 5th and 6th place positions were taken by Romello Crawford (Trojan & PSL) and Andrew Hicks (United We Stand).
Eastman took three of the eight sprint prizes with two to Jamal John and one each to Briton John, Dey and de Nobrega.
Briton John (United We Stand) copped the junior category from Adealie Hodge and Ajay Gopilall, while Junior Niles (Team Coco’s) repeated as veteran winner, the only cyclist to do so from the list of 2017 winners. Paul Choo-Wee-Nam and Ian ‘Deaf Boy’ Jackson followed Niles to the line in that order.
Taking the mountain bike category was Jamal Coppel ahead of Kareem Sharpe, while the lone female competitor Shenika Tiexeira.
Yesterday’s event pedaled off at Schoonord, proceeded to Bushy Park on the East Bank Essequibo before returning to the point of origin for the finish.
