The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) will be a hive of activity this afternoon from 15:00hrs with the continuation of the exciting Youth Basketball Guyana’s (YBG) National School Basketball Festival, Regionals.
Featuring school teams from Georgetown and East Coast in the boys’ Under-14, 16 and 19 categories and the lone girls’ Under-19 category, these matches precede the Nationals where the countrywide champions are decided.
Today’s play will account for three group round-robin matches, all in the under-19 category. When the day’s play tips off, St. Joseph High School will sweat with Brickdam Secondary in first of the 40-minute running time game.
Tournament debutants Chase Academic Foundation, which won their opening match against School of the Nations by 10 points (33-23), will play Christ Church in the second match which bounces off at 16:00hrs and Tutorial will play favourites for the Marian Academy in the feature game at 17:00hrs.
During the last match day (March 31st) in the tournament which is being sponsored by Edward B. Beharry and Company, the National Sports Commission (NSC) and Ministry of Education (MOE), St. Rose’s High School (SRHS) overcame an early scare to defeat The Bishops’ High School (BHS) 31-26.
Meanwhile, the feature match saw Plaisance Secondary defeating the Government Technical Institute (GTI), 47-39.
