The BV/Triumph 8thof May Movement Village Anniversary Celebrations continued on Sunday last at the Beterverwagting Community Centre ground with the kick off of an Under 17 Inter-Block football Tournament.
Four teams are competing, Ogle Street, Central, Backdam and Sideline with Ogle Street winning the opening match against Central. The two teams engaged in over 90 minutes of competitive action and were closely matched in skill and tactics.
The two teams provided the sizeable crowd on hand with much excitement as both sides demonstrated exceptional offence and defense with their goalkeepers being equal to the task by preventing a number scoring opportunities due to their superb athletic and agility skills.
Nevertheless, it would be Ogle Street’s Shamar Kingston’s consistent awareness and superb positioning in the box that enabled him to receive a cross from the left wing by diving and heading the ball into the back of the Central nets.
With timing running out, Central seemed too bewildered to recover and though they made valiant attempts to equalise, Ogle Street goalkeeping and defense was tough to penetrate and the match ended 1-0 in favor of Ogle Street. Competition will continue with Backdam opposing Sideline on Sunday.
