The man who allegedly murdered nine-year-old South Ruimveldt resident, Shaquan Gittens, is listed to go on trial in the current session of the Demerara assizes which commenced on April 3, last.
Justice Sandil Kissoon, Justice Drakes Bovell-Drakes and Justice Jo Ann Barlow—who is presiding in the Sexual Offences Court—have been rostered to sit throughout this session.
According to a list of 242 cases for trial in this session, Brian Bobb-Semple will be arraigned for the child’s murder.
It is alleged that between April 1 and April 4, 2015 at Houston Backland, he murdered Gittens.
According to reports, Semple went missing on April 1, 2015 after he left home to fly his kite in his neighbourhood with some friends. His partially decomposed and bloated body was discovered in a trench three days after he went missing. His genitals were severed.
Reports state that Semple, an alleged drug addict, saw the little boy walking at night on Caneview Avenue, South Ruimveldt. The murder accused reportedly admitted to police that he ‘tripped’ the boy, causing him to fall to the ground before dragging him under a tree. It was under the tree that Semple reportedly told police he tied Gittens hands and sodomized him before dumping him in a trench aback of Houston.
