The benevolence of the Pele Alumni Corporation has been extended to the Ministry of Indigenous Affairs with the donation of 25 Backpacks containing educational and personal hygiene items and 10 footballs.
The items were handed over to Minister within the Ministry of Indigenous People’s Affairs, Valerie Garrido-Lowe yesterday by Pele Alumni Corporation Director Dennis Ivor Carrington at the Minister’s Quamina Street, Georgetown.
In handing over the items, Carrington said that it was on the advice of former national footballer Earl O’Neil that the Alumn
i decided to make the contribution to the Minister for uses by the hinterland players.
”The gifts of 25 backpacks and 10 footballs will further advance the excitement of these hinterland players who we know are very talented. So on behalf of the Pele Alumni Corporation, all of the Directors in North America we would like to present these items to you.”
Minster Garrido-Lowe in accepting the donation expressed gratitude to Carrington and the Pele Alumni Corporation on behalf of her Ministry and all the youths playing the beautiful game in the Hinterland.
”I know that they would be delighted to receive these gifts. These youths would be very appreciative of your kind gesture to assist them in the furtherance of their education and the game of football, they will be so happy.”
Minister noted that as a government and Ministry, they cannot do everything and are very thankful for public spirited persons and corporate Guyana who come forward to assist.
”I would also like to congratulate you and the Pele Alumni for your initiative of pairing education off with football because this is really needed, so you are doing the right thing, congratulations.”
Minister Garrido-Lowe stated that her Ministry is always there to assist in any way needed going forward.
