Colin ‘Superman’ Lewis raises his hand in triumph after his first step toward a Commonwealth Games medal.
Guyana’s Colin ‘Superman’ Lewis continued his boxing dominance over St. Lucian Nathan Ferrari after defeating him via unanimous decision in the Men’s 64 Kg (Welterweight) first round fight yesterday to get his Gold Coast games campaign off to a positive start.
Superman’s promise of a spirited performance in the 21st Commonwealth Games which is being contested in the Gold Coast, Australia, got underway after he defeated his familiar foe Ferrari who he got past 4-1 according to the five-judge panel.
Lewis had defeated Ferrari last year to capture the region’s light welterweight title during the Caribbean Development Boxing championships last year, in addition to a first round TKO victory during Guyana’s Patrick Forde Memorial Boxing Championships in February.
When ‘Superman’ gloves up again for action it will be against South Africa’s Sinethemba Blom in the division’s round-of-16.
Meanwhile, the other boxer representing the Golden Arrowhead in Australia, Keeve Allicock, will begin his campaign against Reece McFadden of Scotland in the Flyweight class, Monday.
