Many are still in shock and disbelief, after witnessing the horrific death of seven-year-old Jadesh Mohanlall, of Aurora Village,Essequibo Coast.
The boy was struck down on the Aurora Public Road last Tuesday, after he allegedly ran into the path of a speeding car.
The child lived with his father, stepmother and stepsister, in their Aurora home, which is located about three miles north from Supenaam. At the time of the accident, the child was at home with his father Balram Mohanlall, who told this publication that he was unaware that his son had left the house.
According to the 31-year-old labourer, he was only made aware of the accident after he heard screams from neighbours who were reportedly the first on the scene. The man told this publication yesterday, “I only hear the scream and I run outside. When I come outside, I see he deh till up the road on the road corner, with he face down.”
The father added, “By the time I reach he… he de already deh in a bad shape and already unconscious, so we get the same car driver to take he to the hospital because nobody else wanted to do it.”
One neighbour who was also the first on the accident scene, told Kaieteur News that witnessing the child she knew from a kid battle for his life was the worst thing she had ever endured. The woman noted that at one point, the young boy regained consciousness-crying out for severe pain.
She added, “I couldn’t believe this was the same child that use to run over at me. He head had about five huge cuts, this child foot break to such an extent that he bones all de showing… when I first arrive on scene, I knew to myself that he was a goner. The saddest part of it is that he had to endure all that pain before he died.”
After battling for his life at the Suddie Public Hospital for more than two hours, the seven-year-old finally succumbed to his injuries. The 42-year-old driver of the motorcar remains in police custody, assisting with further investigations.
