Two men, who allegedly had drugs in their possession and tried to outsmart the police by disembarking the vehicle in which they were travelling and avoiding a roadblock, but were nabbed, have been remanded to jail.
Ricardo Welch, 22, of Main Street Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice, and Rayon Sampson, 23, of Sheet Anchor, East Canje Berbice, were allegedly in a vehicle, when they got information that the police were manning a roadblock on the Weldaad Public Road.
Determined to pass with the alleged illicit items they were transporting, the men decided to come out of the vehicle – which would have waited on them at an appointed location further up the road.
The police subsequently received word that two men were seen acting suspiciously while walking along the Weldaad back street. The police proceed to the back street where the two men upon seeing the lawmen threw away a black bag they were carrying. The bag was retrieved and the men were arrested. The bag was searched and contained what was confirmed to be leaves, seeds and stems of the marijuana plant, amounting to 46 pounds.
The men were charged for trafficking in narcotics and appeared before Magistrate Rhondell Weaver at the Fort Wellington Magistrate Court where bail was refused.
They were remanded until April 19 when the matter will be heard again.
