A seven year old child yesterday lost his life on the Aurora Public Road on the Essequibo Coast, after he was struck down by a speeding car.
The child was identified as Jadesh Mohanlall of Aurora Village. According to police reports, the car was driven by a 43-year-old businessman, who was found to be above the legal limit of alcohol.
Investigations revealed that the child ran out from a yard and into the path of the motor car.
The child was taken to the Suddie Public Hospital by the driver, but subsequently succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment.
The driver remains in custody assisting with further investigations.
Yesterday’s road fatality was the second on the Essequibo Coast, occurring in less than a week. Both were as a result of persons driving under the influence of alcohol.
