Aasrodeen Shaw, Lusignan Golf Club Treasurer, for the second week in succession emerged the winner in last Saturday’s Brass Aluminium & Cast Iron Foundry’s (BACIF) Inaugural Golf Tournament, this time with a Net Score of 65.
Before Tee-off time, BACIF General Manager, Peter Pompey, along with Commercial & Design Superintendent, Yolanda Geddes-Kendall; Machine Shop Superintendent, Kwesi Craig; and Technical Assistant to the GM, Adrian Barkoye, were on the Course to happily take a few golf strokes as their personal initiation into the great game.
BACIF of Lots 9-14 West Ruimveldt Business Area, Georgetown, (Tel:592-225-7531), is the premier manufacturer of high quality and precision engineered ferrous and non-ferrous castings in Guyana for over fifty years, with one of its recent testimonials being the Houston Overhead Walkway on the East Bank of Demerara.
While being recognized internationally and by the European Union, BACIF’s local good citizenry activities include a 2-year Trainee/Apprenticeship programme that assists youths whose school experience may have been weak, but who on successful completion of the training are guaranteed employment with BACIF.
BACIF made a remarkable entry into Golf sponsorship with Tee-off having the presence of 7 beautiful finalists of the Linden Pageant. Golfers were also treated to a snack and a bottle of water before Tee-off.
GM Pompey, in congratulating the winners and participants of the day’s tournament, thanked the Golf Club for the opportunity to contribute to its development and pledged to continue to offer support.
The competition was fierce, so that after 2nd place there was a tussle between 3 golfers for 3rd place followed by another tussle between 2 golfers that would have been for 7th place. The 3rd place winner was determined from a count of the ‘back nine’ scores. At the end of the day, winners were as follows: Lakeram Ramsundar – Nearest The Pin; (current and 3 times Guyana Open Champion) Avinash Persaud – Best Gross and Longest Drive; (former Guyana Open Champion) Mike Mangal (71/8) – 3rd Best Net; Patrick Prashad (68/9) – 2nd Best Net; and Aasrodeen Shaw (65/16) – Best Net.
The next close ten Net performances were done by (President) Aleem Hussain (71/12 – 4th place); Richard Haniff (71/12 – 5th place); Avinash Persaud (72/2); (2 times former Guyana Open Champion) Mohanlall Dinanauth (72/6); Gavin Todd (73/18); (former Guyana Open Ladies Champion) Shanella London (74/16); Clifford Reis (74/23); Kassim Khan (76/9); Lakeram Ramsundar (77/11); and Guillermo Escaraga(77/24).
Club President, Aleem Hussain praised Mr Pompey for the initiative of coming on board to support the LGC at this time, and noted that committed support from Messrs Clifford Reis and Robert Hanoman indicated that in the near future, the projected Swimming Pool and a fine dining Restaurant could be expected to be completed at the Golf Course, adding the desired Country Club flavor to its ambience and utility.
