With over 18 years of practice to her name, Attorney-at-law, Fidela Corbin-Lincoln hopes to contribute to improving the standard of justice in Guyana.
Corbin-Lincoln who has worked as a Master Chamber Judge of the Eastern Caribbean Court has been appointed as Puisne Judge of the High Court.
Ms Corbin-Lincoln was presented with her instrument of commission by President David Granger on Thursday.
She received her LLB from the University of Guyana and Certificate in Legal Education (CLE) from the Hugh Wooding Law School.
As an attorney, Justice Corbin-Lincoln worked in Antigua and the United Kingdom. She is said to have a proven track record as a top performer with exceptional success handling large case management, litigation, pre-litigation, case analysis, and client advisory matters.
Speaking at the swearing in ceremony, President David Granger said that he received and acted dutifully in accordance with the Constitution in administering the oath of office.
“This ceremony today, aimed at filling a vacancy in our judicial system, is a simple yet serious re-affirmation of the supremacy of the Constitution. It is a means of ensuring the independence, impartiality and integrity of the judiciary.”
The President said that in addition to exemplifying the qualities of independence, impartiality and integrity, judicial officers must ensure that independence of the institution, which they serve by resisting any attempt at executive and legislative encroachment.
They must also guarantee the impartiality of their decisions by guarding against bias, prejudice and favouritism; and to ensure the integrity of their reputations by acting, always, in a manner, which upholds the dignity of their office.
President Granger reiterated that his administration remains committed to the independence of the judiciary and will do everything in its power to ensure that the work of judicial branch is protected.
