Boxing is arguably Guyana’s best bet of medaling at the 21st Commonwealth Games which will punch off in the Gold Coast, Australia next week and the sport’s three member contingent that will represent the Golden Arrowhead arrived yesterday in the Australasia continent.
The early arrival should augur well for the boxing duo of Keeve Allicock and Colin ‘Superman’ Lewis who will both use the time to acclimatize themselves to the conditions of the country under the watchful eyes of Coach Sebert Blake following a grueling journey which took them through several countries including Suriname and China then eventually reaching Australia.
Technical Director of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) and National Coach, Terrence Poole, have signaled 100% confidence of spirited performances by the local talents who recently qualified for the Central America and Caribbean (CAC) games which will be held in Barranquilla, Colombia, this August.
The promise of the Caribbean light welterweight champion, Superman Lewis and Commonwealth youth games silver medalist, Allicock, is exciting and the young men had the opportunity to undergo a training camp in Mexico prior to their successful CAC qualifiers and they will be rearing to go when action hits off next week.
