(Guyana Chess Federation release) – The National Sports Commission along with the Guyana National Chess Federation will be sending a National Junior Team to the 7th Carifta Chess Championship which is slated for tomorrow to 03rd April in Paramaribo Suriname.
This is Guyana’s first time participating in this event and yesterday, the participants along with their parents visited the National Sports Commission and interacted with Assistant Director Brian Smith. Smith wished the National Team best of luck on their journey, stating he was proud of them and advised them to make their country proud.
Also, President of Guyana Chess Federation James Bond gave his best wishes and regards to all players.
The Team Manager is John Lee and he will be accompanied by National Chess Coach Wendell Meusa and Assistant Coach Orel Richardson. The National Junior Chess Team is spearheaded by newly crowned National Junior Champion Joshua Gopaul, fellow St. Stanislaus Chess comrades Ghansham Allijohn, Jaden Taylor and Chelsea Juma. Also, Sasha Shariff, Ethan and Ronan Lee of Marian Academy, along with Keon Scott, Tyrese Kirt, Cleyon Andrews and Tyreese Lucas from the Albouystown “ Open Mind” Chess Club.
Special thanks is extended to all the parents, National Sports Commission, Guyana National Chess Federation, The Suriname Chess Federation, The Government of Suriname, Mr. Loris Nathoo of Red Cherry, Pastor Keith Vigilance and members of the Albouystown Policing Youth Group.
