With the aim of developing the sport locally and producing world class swimmers, the National Sports Commission (NSC) in collaboration with the Ministry of the Presidency, Department of Social Cohesion, Culture, Youth and Sport have once again embarked on its annual swimming programme.
The programme, which commenced yesterday, is being held at the National Aquatic Centre and will culminate on April 6. Sessions commence at 09:00hrs and conclude at 11:00hrs each day under the guidance of Shenice Mahaica, Paul Mahaica, Denroy Throtman, Dewen Griffith and life Guard Corwin Corlette.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Gervy C. Harry Administrative Officer of the NSC urged the parents to encourage their children to take the sport seriously which will aid in the growth of the sport. NSC donated kick boards to the students and Harry pledged their continued support, while Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) President Ivan Persaud encouraged the NSC to spread the programme nationwide.
During the clinic participants will be tutored on how to blow bubbles (breathing while swimming), Float and glide, Threading, Kicks and Free style swimming. (Zaheer Mohamed)
