A labourer was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with attempted murder over stabbing his friend multiple times about the body.
Ronald Marks, 19, of Morawhanna, North West District, was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that on March 25, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Henry Santiago, with intent to commit murder. The accused was unrepresented in court.
Based on reports, on the day in question the two men, who are both fishermen, were imbibing alcohol when an argument broke out between them. It was during that argument that Santiago allegedly chopped Marks to his right foot. Marks then reportedly broke a bottle and stabbed his friend several times about the body.
Marks, who appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, was remanded to prison until March 29, when he will make another court appearance in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield opposed bail for Marks, citing that the victim is still hospitalized in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
