A magnificent all round performance by Claurence Beresford of Jukestown United , scoring a belligerent century and then returning to take 8 wickets has been the highlight so far after the third round of the Ramnaresh Sarwan/ Upper Corentyne Cricket Association 40 overs second division cricket competition.
The competition is for teams in the Upper Corentyne and Black Bush areas.
Playing for Jukestown United against Crabwood Creek All Family, Beresford hammered 111(6×4, 8×6). The knock led his team to 324-9 in 40 overs and a win. He got support from D. Sookdeo 60 (6×4, 1×6) and M. McKenzie 35. Bowling for Crabwood Creek All Family L. Rajubeer picked up 3 wickets, while there were 2 each for Janie and Totoram.
They were then wiped away for 53 in 12.4 overs to lose by 271 runs. Beresford was virtually unplayable as he spun webs around the batsmen to finish with 8-21.
Raymond Lowenfied’s 5 wickets haul for Scottsburg United against Crabwood Creek Young Blood helped his team to an 8 wickets win.
CWC Young Blood were bundled out for 74 with F. Alli scoring 28. Lowenfield took 5 wickets as Scottsburg in reply hurried to 81-2 in 12 overs with Arfan Jeffery 45.
Skeldon Titans defeated No77 by 7 wickets. No77 were bowled out for 110 in 28 overs with R. Gomes 34. Off spinner Errol Byass was mysterious in taking 6 wickets, Deon Esau picked up 3.
Skeldon Titans wasted little time as they blasted their way to 112-3 in 10 overs. Akim Bowling was 42 not out (3×4, 2×6), while Byass 37 (3×4, 2×6) had a good all round performance. The most exciting encounter saw a tied game between No48 Challengers and No70 MYO. There was a century for Rishi Persaud playing for No72 Cut and Load against No71 Cricket Club.
No48 batted first and made 184 with V. Budhoo 44, B. Samaroo 38 and D. Persaud 26. Bowling for No70 MYO, A. Khan had 4 wickets, while F. Alli took 3. No70 MYO were all out for 184, scores equal match tied. Top scorers were N. Khan 46 and A. Khan 34. Bowling for No48 Challengers, Balram Samaroo took 4 wickets and B. Persaud took 3.
The game between No72 Cut and Load and No71 Sports Complex was won by Cut and Load by 174 runs. They made 323 in their 40 overs with Rishi Persaud plundering 107(9×4, 7×6), while Mahendra Persaud made 34. There were 3 wickets for C. Punesar and D. Ramroop, while K. Roopraj and N. Ali picked up 2.
No70 Spartans defeated No73 Young Warriors by 41 runs. Spartans rattled up 213 with Akash Persaud 59 and L. Wazir 55. Bowling for Young Warriors Robin Rampersaud snared 4wickets with T. Latchman, A. Mohammed and O. Singh taking 2 wickets each.
Young Warriors in reply were conquered for 163 with Lakeram Latchman 34.
No72 All Stars whipped No69 Red Rose by 191 runs after making 266 with Mahendra Bhoj 79(4×4, 3×6), C. Chatterpaul 46, V. Chatterpaul 37, while A. Hemchand and P. Chatterpaul made 32 each.
Bowling for Red Rose Y. Prahaled, T. Rampersaud and I. Khan took 2 wickets each. They were then skittled out for 87 with T. Narindatt making 20.
K. Chatterpaul with 3-8 was supported by R Gobin with 2 wickets.
Skeldon Super Kings defeated Crabwood Creek Bomb Squad by 4 wickets. Bomb Squad were blown away for 184 with T. Shivamber 77(5×4, 3×6), B. Edwards 66 not out.
Bowling for Super Kings, Sherwin Murray with 4 and L. Davis with 3 led the main wicket takers. They in reply reached 186-6 with J. Rajram 59 and Z. Gordon 42 leading the way.
Shivamber took 3 wickets with P. Pooran supporting with 2.
No 71 Cricket Club hammered No68 Turn Team by 8 wickets after bowling them out for 138 in 27.3 overs with W. Anthony making 42 and T. Persaud 22.
All-rounder M. McIntosh led the bowling with 5-40, while O. Mathura collected 3.
NO71 in reply reached 140-2 with Nazim Mohammed unbeaten on 47 and S. Khan 46 not out. McIntosh made 30; while Jhilaill picked up 2 wickets bowling for the losers.
