Guyana’s boxing team to the Commonwealth Games departed yesterday for Australia. The three-man team is headed by Coach Sebert Blake and includes boxers Colin ‘Superman’ Lewis and ‘Lightning’ Keevin Allicock.
The trio will first have to battle a journey that takes them through Suriname, Holland and China before arriving in Australia. President of the Guyana Boxing Association Steve Ninvalle said that he is confident that his charges will do well on the Gold Coast and pave the way for boxing being allotted more places on teams representing Guyana at similar Games. The GBA was only afforded two athletes for the Commonwealth Games.
Allicock, a Youth Commonwealth Games silver medalist at flyweight and the Caribbean Bantamweight champion and Lewis, the Caribbean Light Welterweight champion will go into action on April 4.
