Leading Trinidad and Tobago Rugby Club, Harvard arrived in Guyana yesterday and is rearing to go against the best local clubs at today’s Guyana Rugby Football Union season opening Sevens competition at the National Park.
This would be the first time that Harvard’s full team is competing in Guyana but a number of their players have already played at the National Park. According to club Chairman, Gregory Rousse, they have been preparing since last year and they are here to pocket the top prize of USD$1000.
They will be competing against five local clubs, Pepsi Hornets, Yamaha Caribs, Guyana Police Falcons, Panthers and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF). But with the likes of international player in Kevin McKenzie among others in the visiting team’s line-up, the local clubs would have their work cut out in their desire to topple the visitors.
Action will scrum off at 11:00hrs and the team finishing second will receive $100,000 while the Most Valuable Player (MVP) will collect $20,000.
