The Milo/Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) Under-18 schools’ football tournament continued last yesterday at the Ministry of Education (MoE) ground with the first two quarterfinal matches which witnessed powerhouses, Chase Academic Foundation being knocked out.
After dominating this competition by winning for three consecutive years, the defending champions, Chase, were stuck up 1-0 by Sir Leon Lessons as the day’s play concluded in jaw-dropping fashion.
This now means that there will be new champions for this year’s tourney.
During the cautiously competed game, the first half belonged to the eventual winners who had the best chance on goal, a swirling low shot that had the keeper beaten but only found the upright instead of the net.
While the chances were few, Chase managed good runs but failed to finish them, their strikers slipping on the mouth of goal.
“We just didn’t finish in the final third,” was the sentiment shared by the losing Captain Jeremy Garret.
However, Sir Leon Lessons’ Teon Forde showed good strength to shake off two defensive challenges with a decisive run along the left flank before firing in a rocket into the right of the goal. And with ten minutes remaining in the match, Chase switched to all out attack but couldn’t find a way through Sir Leon Lessons.
In the earlier match, Buxton Youth Developers were a runaway train against Masters Academy beating them 4-0. Teshaun Gordon (45th, 78th and, 83rd) scored a hat-trick while Shamar Scott scored in the 27th.
Those two teams are through to the semifinals with the other two to be decided today when Lodge Secondary play Pure Masters from 14:00hrs and Morgan Learning Centre go up against Annandale from 16:00hrs.
