– now co-owner of ‘Divas Art and Craft Store’
Hot, tantalizing, sexy, electrifying, dynamic, explosive, and numerous other words can be used to describe the stage performance of this young and oh-so-talented Guyana-born-and-bred singer and songwriter, Shelon Garraway, also known as ‘Shelly G’.
Guyanese are accustomed to her customarily saucy and out-right provocative and raunchy performances and that would have been the main contributor to her remarkably large fan, base.
However, just recently, fans have been reacting with even more excitement, now that the talented song bird has just recently opened the Divas Art and Craft Store situated at Avinash Complex, Water Street, Georgetown.
Ms. Garraway co-owns this business with her husband, Mr. Corwyn Williams, of CFW Family Entertainment Inc.
WHO IS ‘SHELLY G’?
Shelly has been singing since the age of six, but in church and in her school dorms. She eventually auditioned on a talent exclusive show, and earned herself a lead recording roll at Dynamix Recording Studios.
She does it all, being versatile. She does Soca, Dancehall, Reggae, Chutney, R&B and Soul. To get a taste of her ‘intoxicating flava’, just check the music on her albums, available at http://www.shellygonline.com.
Recording music over the past ten years had been an exciting journey for Shelly G, who has already tabled hits with the likes of international entertainer ‘Luciano’, Guyana’s reggae ambassadors ‘First Born’, the talented ‘Fojo’, and top-notch icons like ‘Jah Cure’, Rudy Corbin, JB, and Chutney sensation ‘De Hitman’ of Trinidad.
She has also recorded a mixed tape, dubbed ‘My Name Is’, with twenty-one songs as she tries to take her music to a higher level by integrating Hip Hop and R&B with a rich West Indian Soca and Dancehall groove.
She has also been the opening act for lots of international artists on tour to Guyana, among whom have been ‘Akon’, ‘Beenie Man’, Jah Cure, Beres Hammond, Maxi Priest, Soca Queen Allison Hinds, and Dancehall Queen ‘Lady Saw’. She has, moreover, collaborated with R&B Sensation ‘Ashanti’, just to name a few.
In 2005, she was first runner-up in the Guyana CaribSoca Monarch, and she went on to win the CaribSoca Monarch title in February 2009 and become the only woman to ever win that league.
This ambition gave birth to her mixed tape entitled ‘My Name Is Shelly G’, which showcases her new style on 21 tracks. Check it out in digital stores worldwide.
Music is the blood that runs through her veins, and she practically lives in the studio, having recorded in London, Jamaica, Trinidad and Guyana, courtesy of Vizion Sounds, Platinum 101 Trinidad, Dynamix Music, and Stadic Production.
Her Soca Monarch entry for the 2014 competition ‘Party Animal’ (Wuk It) was recorded in Trinidad by Stadic Productions, and was awarded Best Groovy Soca by the Hits & Jams Boom 94.1 Radio Station in Guyana for Mashramani 2014.
NOT GIVING UP
While she is not giving up her music by any chance Garraway noted that she wanted to do something different, and decided on this new venture since she wanted to make a fashion statement and do something classy that stands out on in the fashion arena.
“For ages women have battled with the unpleasant experience of having to deal with fading jewelry and accessories. It is with this thought in mind that I opened Divas Art and Craft Store, bringing to the platter, accessories and costume jewellery that can last a life time.”
According to Garraway, “Using authentic stones and beads, we are continuing to wow our customers with our clean finish, and intricate styles we add to their pieces. To guarantee ultimate customer satisfaction we inculcate the use of ‘non-fade’ materials to ensure the jewellery does not fade or change colour.”
And customers are already raving about the experience of being able to sit and wait as their pieces are made to order in the ‘nick of time’. Upon entering the store one is transformed into a colourful world of clashing colours, brilliant hues and shades, as the very attractive pieces are displayed at strategic points in the store.
There are pieces there to suit any section of society, and practically persons of any descent can be assured they will find something there to meet their need. Jewellery there assures sophisticated evening allure, bubbly fashion statements, outdoor free spiritedness, sensual captivation and so much more.
Staff at this venue is trained to walk customers through selecting the correct pieces to produce the kind of statement they want to exude. Cultivated beads and precious stones are transformed into breath-taking jewellery in shades of jade, turquoise, topaz, hazel, and hues associated with different moods.
The sea shell necklaces and bracelets are astounding, and the earrings are certainly items to die for.
Management is offering to have interested persons trained in the art of making jewellery too. They can be contacted on telephone number 698-6530, and can be followed on their Facebook page: Divas Art and Craft.
Meanwhile, fans of Shelly G’s can look out for live performances at venues near them, and come out and support this electrifying song diva.
