Police in ‘B’ Division have made headways into the robbery committed on a businessman’s ranch in Pottoco Ranch, Canje Creek.
It was confirmed by a police source that an individual named Rondell Crawford, 21, of Betsy Ground, East Canje was arrested in the area at approximately 13:00 hrs. He was reportedly the sixth member of the gang that invaded Krishna Persaud’s ranch in the Canje Creek.
Amar Bissoon and Indarjit Sham were reportedly a part of the said gang when they committed the brazen robbery on Persaud’s ranch proprietor of K. Persaud and Sons trucking service of Vryheid, New Amsterdam, Berbice. Two other members, including Timothy Sampson and two others were also arrested over the weekend.
Details have since revealed that two workers for Persaud were on the ranch in Pottoco Creek, Berbice River when the six men approached them. They were held at gunpoint when they stole 23 sheep, 15 ducks, a solar panel, a radio, a quantity of rope, and other valuables; the property of a 50-year-old businessman of Vryheid, West Canje, Berbice. They loaded the items on a boat and subsequently escaped.
Shortly after the robbery occurred, police in ‘B’ Division were informed and a team led by a Senior Detective intercepted a boat with suspects who are now in custody, in the Berbice River and based on further information, the ranks proceeded to a location where the robbery allegedly took place.
There, they discovered all of the animals with their legs bound and the other stolen property loaded inside of a camouflaged aluminum boat.
As soon as the ranks disembarked their boat, they came under fire by the now dead men, who discharged several rounds at them. The officers quickly adapted tactical positions and returned fire, fatally wounding the men were positively identified by the victims as members of the gang who committed the robbery.
A 12-gauge pump action shotgun, a .32 pistol, eleven live cartridges, and five live.32 rounds were found in possession of the bandits. Also three spent cartridges and a .32 spent shell were retrieved at the scene.
