– focuses on seniors
Herbal Medicine, according to an online reference, is the study of botany and use of plants intended for medicinal purposes or for supplementing a diet. Plants have been the basis for medical treatments through much of human history, and such traditional medicine is still widely practised today. With this in mind, there is one man who thought that opening a Herbal Clinic in his hometown of Berbice would be an excellent idea.
Shodan Nick Persaud, 63, an overseas-based Guyanese who has returned to Guyana, made his plans a reality when he opened his herbal clinic last Thursday at Essex Street, New Amsterdam. At the simple opening that began with a religious segment and the official cutting of the ribbon, he told reporters that it was always a dream of his to become a doctor.
“I’ve always wanted to be a doctor but I was never science biased. At a very late stage in my life after living eighteen years in America and twelve in Canada then I started studying for natural medicine at age fifty-eight. That’s when I got my doctorate”, he proudly stated.
He shared how elated he was to have achieved such success in his life.
“I am very proud of my achievements so far and I hope that I can help a lot of senior people, a lot of people in general and I can treat them at a reasonable cost because natural medicine is much cheaper than pharmaceutical drugs”, he added.
Present at the opening was his brother and Member of Parliament/Attorney-at-law Charrandass Persaud.
His opening hours are from 09:00 am to 02:00 pm Monday-Fridays. Persaud says his clinic will provide treatment for Arthritis, pain, swelling, colds, fever, influenza, acne, eczema and much more. Services are also available in therapeutic and deep tissue massages. His office can be contacted at number 650-0601.
