Police are preparing to charge an unemployed man who robbed an off-duty police constable of a cell phone and $240 yesterday.
A release stated that the 23-year-old policeman was walking along Hinck Street around 09:15 hrs when the suspect attacked him with a pair of shears and relieved the rank of his mobile phone and $240.
“The quick-thinking policeman did not try to engage the robber, but instead, made a thorough observation of him and then promptly informed his supervisors,” a release stated.
Police, including a cadet officer, then went to the Stabroek Market area where they arrested the suspect, who was standing “under the clock” at the market.
He still had the policeman’s belongings, as well as the instrument he had used in the robbery.
