A woman who allegedly dealt her husband several cuffs and injured him with a broken bottle after they were involved in an argument, was on Thursday placed before the court to answer to a charge of unlawful and malicious wounding.
Lavern Stanley, a 26-year-old farmer of Imbaimadai Landing, Upper Mazaruni, Essequibo, denied the charge which alleged that on February 24 at Imbaimadai Landing, she unlawfully and maliciously wounded Lincoln Stanley with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause grievous bodily harm.
The court heard that on the day in question, the woman and her husband were consuming alcohol. An argument ensued and the man dealt his wife a slap across her face.
The court heard that the woman then slapped her husband several times about his body and stabbed him with a broken beer bottle.
The woman’s attorney, Clyde Forde, told the court that his client on the day in question was only trying to defend herself, since her husband was the one who started to assault her.
The lawyer asked that bail be granted to his client in a reasonable amount.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore had no objection to bail being granted.
The Magistrate released the woman on $50,000 bail. She was instructed to make her next court appearance on March 5.
