In an effort to foster relationship with organisations both in and out of Guyana the, GuySuCo Training Center/ Port Mourant ( GTC/PM) over the weekend convened a successful twinning exercise with the Spartans Volleyball Club of Nickerie Suriname. The activity was held from 22nd Feb to February 25th in Nickerie Suriname.
A contingent of 40 apprentices and 6 officials represented the GTCPM on the trip to the neighbouring Republic.
Apart from the regular protocols a number of games were played. Among the games played were volleyball, football and cricket. The lads from the GTC/PM made a clean sweep winning all the games which were played over two nights. Results show in volleyball the GTCPM 3-0, 3-0, 3-0. In six a side football two teams representing the GTCPM advanced to the finals after defeating the Nickerie Six in a four team encounter. The GTCPM 1 team won the finals 5-0. The Goal scorers were Shamar Wilkie 3 and Shaquan Spencer 2.
In a 15/15 overs hardball cricket match: GTCPM won the toss and batted first, scoring 141 for 9 wickets. Jermain Pollard top scored with 38, while Devindra Latchman made 18. In reply, Nickeri was restricted to 102 for 9.
The GTCPM was presented with a trophy for their success. The Sparta volleyball club being the premier organiser was thanked for their invitation and organising of the games. They also thanked Guysuco Training Centre for turning up and expressed hope that another exercise can be realized soon. (Samuel Whyte)
