Organisers of this year’s Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Linden schools Under-18 football championship has announced that it will be launched this afternoon as was previously stated.
Speaking about the launch Organising Secretary of the Linden Chapter of the Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Foundation, Kevin DeJonge, said that there were initial concerns that a schedule Mash activity involving nursery and primary school children might have caused it to be pushed back.
However, DeJonge said that this should not be a reason for not launching the annual tournament and that the various officials were already notified about it’s launching before.
The launching starts at 14.45 hrs at the YMCA building in Retrieve, Linden and officials of the Upper Demerara Football Association, its refereeing body, sponsors and schools are exacted to be in attendance.
Two venues will be used for the tournament and they are the Wisburg Secondary School and Mackenzie Sports Club grounds. The two group round-robin format championship before the semifinals and final among the schools will see play begin on March 12 and the final will be played on April 13.
The participating schools are Christianburg Wismar Secondary, Mackenzie High, New Silvercity Secondary, Harmony Secondary School, Wisburg Secondary, Linden Foundation Secondary, Linden Technical Institute and the Private Combined.
