Members of Guyana’s national men’s and women table tennis team will depart today Enroute to Havana, Cuba to participate in the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games qualification event in their quest to qualify for the 2018 Central America and Caribbean Games scheduled for the July 19th to 3rd August in Barranquilla, Colombia.

The seven (7) member team will include national men’s table tennis champion Christopher Franklin, Nigel Bryan, Shemar Britton, Joell Alleyne and on the distaff side Natalie Cummings, JodyAnn Blake and Trenace Lowe who will join the team from the USA.
The qualification event will see thirteen (13) teams on the men’s side and nine (9) women teams from CAC region vying for qualification.
Guyana will be missing the services of national women’s champion Chelsea Edghill who is currently engaged in final year studies.
Importantly, the qualifiers will also serve as a key preparation and warm-up event based on the fact that several of the selected players for the qualifiers are also selected for the Commonwealth Games. It will also help our team members players pick up much needed world ranking points heading into the Commonwealth Games.
More strategically, the team is made up of the nucleus of players selected for the Commonwealth Games and they will also be participating in the Latin American table tennis championships.
The team has been hard in training for these games and our prospects for CAC qualification and medal chances are quite good a release from the GTTA stated.
More strategically, with the series of events slated for the year which revolves around our teams’ participation in the Commonwealth Games, the plan is to have several key players attend a high yield training camp in Germany leading into the CAC games.
The GTTA would like to express appreciation and heartfelt thank you to the Guyana Olympic Association and connections Travel Service for assisting the association’s efforts in getting the team to Cuba, the release concluded.
