Turfites and horseracing fans in Berbice are anticipating the Port Mourant Turf Club in collaboration with the Guyana Association of Women Police, grand one-day horserace meet today.
With over 60 entries and a track in excellent condition and all systems in place, a grand day of horseracing is anticipated and a number of the leading runners will be on show.
The meet will have a total of seven races with a total cash prize purse of about $2million on offer.
The G class and lower will be the feature race of the day, being competed over a distance of eight furlongs with the winner collecting $350,000.
There will be 3-year-old Guyana bred race over a distance of 1200m that will feature a 1st place cash prize of $240,000.
The J class and lower which will be sprinted over a distance of seven furlongs will attract a $200,000 purse, while the K class and lower and the L class Open that will both be raced over a distance of six furlongs have been set 1st place cash prizes of $160,000 and $140,000 respectively up for the taking.
Meanwhile, the L class division 2 and the unclassified will both be battled over a distance of five furlongs with their respective 1st place cash prizes being $100,000 and $90,000.
Among those horses on show are Perfect Return, Red Jet, Ready, Plain Land, Release The Heat, Touch Gold, Puppy Tail, Red Regent, Secret Escape, Big Man In Town, Not This Time, Cresending Cat, The Final Line, Princess Shoma, Irish Boy and Ready To Romance.
The rules of the Port Mourant Turf Club will be in effect at the meet.
