Guyana is still trying to arrange a meeting with officials of the Kingdom of Norway to sort out some matters standing in the way of accessing US$80M that was supposed to be used to fund the Amaila Falls Hydro Power Project.
The money was being facilitated under the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) agreement that Guyana has with Norway.
Since last year December, Minister of State, with responsibility for the Environment, Joseph Harmon, said that he was seeking a meeting with the Norwegian Minister of Environment.
On Thursday, Harmon said that that meeting is yet to happen.
He said, “I wrote to the Environment Minister of Norway and we got a response with regards the letter. There are issues in the contract which we are working out. But those issues do not, in my view, prevent us from enjoying the benefits under the agreement.”
Harmon continued, “You would recall during the course of this week that (Head of the Guyana Forestry Commission) James Singh, identified certain performance requirement under the Norway Agreement and there are also benefits accruing to the state of Guyana.”
Harmon said that Guyana is still working on matters relating to some other terms of the agreement. “We are still working on those things and there are still active engagements on both sides.”
Harmon said that President David Granger intends to engage with the Kingdom of Norway “so that we can ensure that we have this agreement with Norway and our Green State Development Strategy being placed at the highest priority levels.”
Where is the BETTER MANAGEMENT/RENEGOTIATION OF THE OIL CONTRACTS you promised Jagdeo?
