Dental boat back in operation after eight years

After eight years of being inoperable, the Lady J is once again plying the waters of the Pomeroon River, after being fixed several weeks ago.
The vessel, which is owned by the Regional Administration of Region Two (Pomeroon/ Supenaam), is utilized by the health department of the region for dental outreaches.
For the past eight years, however, it has been out of operation due to engine related issues. Sometime last month, a team from the Regional Democratic Council, managed to revive the once dead engine in a matter of some 30 minutes.
The part fibre glass, metal boat was then taken on a successful trial run a few miles up the Pomeroon River.
The team consisted of the Regional Chairman, Devenand Ramdatt, along with Arnold Adams, Chairman of the Health and Sanitation Committee, and three other persons.
While the Lady J was out of operation, dental outreaches in the Pomeroon had slowed.
Kaieteur News was informed that transportation is hardly affordable for most of the Pomeroon locals. Most are farmers and were heavily dependent of this vessel, as it paved the way for cheaper and affordable healthcare.
Adams said that the Regional Health Officer and senior health officials would deliberate on how best they would put the vessel in to use.
“The people primarily are looking forward to this service, as noted before, not everyone can come to Charity. We are hoping that persons can access the service at a cheaper cost.”
Special days for outreaches would usually be dedicated to various communities. Adams said that instead of putting just the dentist and the dental chair on board the vessel, a doctor can also be placed on the boat so that other persons can benefit from medical outreaches.
