A taxi driver who was charged with felonious wounding and robbery under arms got both matters against him dismissed yesterday in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Samuel Adams, 30, of Lot 9 Dennis Street, Sophia, was on trial before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman.
It is alleged that on December 5, 2016 at Urquhart Street, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded John Brian, with intent to maim, disfigured, disable or cause grievous bodily harm. It was also alleged that on the same day in question and at the same location, Adams while being in the company of others and armed with a gun, robbed John Brian.
The Magistrate told the court that while Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves was able to prove certain aspects of the case, some essential parts were lacking. She added that the video tape which was shown to the court did not show the defendant’s face; hence she found that there was insufficient evidence against him and dismissed the matter.
According to reports, Brian was walking on Urquhart Street, heading in a westerly direction when two bandits, one of whom was armed with a handgun, exited a white car and approached him. Brian became afraid and ran to the Ministry of Finance gate, where he threw a haversack, which was reported to contain $3M, into the compound.
According to information the suspects went into the compound and collected the bag with the money.
The victim then attempted to retrieve the bag and the armed suspect discharged his firearm in his direction, hitting him to his right thigh.
Adams was represented by Attorney-at-law Dexter Todd throughout the trial.
