Last weekend’s play in the Milo/Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) schools’ under-18 football tournament concluded in fine style as Morgan’s Learning Centre smashed 7 past The Bishop’s High School net in the last match yesterday.
The tournament which is being played under the theme “There is no excuse for violence” is currently in the group stage and Darien Dickson scored four goals in the big win for Morgan’s to put his team in a good position to enter the round-of-16 knockouts. He was assisted ably by Dorwin George who netted a brace and Reuben Miller who netted the last goal for the winners who played throughout with much flair.
Meanwhile, Christianburg Wismar Secondary School (CWSS) of Linden added their second win in as many group games after defeating Dolphin 5-1. CWSS found goals from five different scorers in Javier Smith, Andre Mayers, Mickel Adams, Lennox Richards and Akeem Caesar, who all netted one goal each.
Akeem James’ equaliser for Dolphin in the 8th minute proved futile for the loser.
In the opening match yesterday, Ann’s Grove of East Coast Demerara lost to West Demerara school Vergenoegen 4-2. Ann’s Grove’s Carlos Cole and Seminar McPherson goals a-piece could not stop the efforts of Vergenoegen’s Jermin Gill who netted a brace along with single successful strikes from Staroy Lee and Ronaldo Macey which completed the win.
The tournament continues on Wednesday evening with two more matches with the first scheduled to kick off at 16:00hrs. (Calvin Chapman)
