Dear Mr. Editor,
For some time now I have been paying attention to stories about City Hall reported by the Guyana Chronicle. It does appear to me, a layman and an ordinary citizen, that stories about the happenings at City Hall are published to produce a negative result and impugn the character of Her Worship the Mayor of Georgetown, Mrs. Patricia Chase-Green.
Although the Council is making an effort to clean up the city the Chronicle newspaper could only report on the negatives especially when it has to do with the Mayor.
However, comments made by Mr. Sherod Duncan are given prominence on prime pages of the Guyana Chronicle. I have noted that this goodly gentleman even has a column in that newspaper.
I wonder if the way stories are reported in the Guyana Chronicle has anything do with the fact that Mr. Duncan is a member of the board of that Corporation. It is possible that his presence on the board and his publicly known dislike for the Mayor of Georgetown could affect the way reports on the activities of the Mayor are reported in that newspaper.
Almost every week the City Council is reported on in the Guyana Chronicle in a very negative light.
I hope the authorities at the Mayor and City Council take note and seek to correct the kind of image that is being portrayed of the Council by the Guyana Chronicle.
Wilfred Torrington
