The first century was scored in the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association (UCCA) Inter Primary School cricket competition when play in the third and final zones was completed on Friday last.
The day’s action which was for NO56, NO51 and No48 Primaries was played at the No51 Ground. The competition is sponsored by Davendra Ramgoolam of R and R Auto Rental Services of the Upper Corentyne.
The teams have been divided into three zones/clusters with each cluster playing on a separate Friday.
In the two games that were played, NO56 primary made light work of their rivals to advance to the final stage. In the first game between No48 and No56 Primaries, NO56 was asked to bat first and bludgeoned their opponents bowling to reach 154-5 from their 10 overs.
Marvin Mohabir led the way with a swashbuckling 111. The hard-hitting batsman was merciless as he clobbered (15×4, 5×6).
NO48 were bundled out for 52 to lose by 102 runs.
In the final, No56 Primary asked No51 Primary to bat first and restricted them to 70 with Orlando 22(3×4, 1×6), Jeffery 15(2×4) and Randy 13(1×4) being their top scorers.
NO 56 in reply reached 71-6 to win by four wickets with Shawn scoring 27.
At the end of the day’s competition all the players were presented with exercise books, pencils and pens. The school received reading material, all compliments of Hilbert Foster CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club MS.
NO 56 Primary has now joined Massiah Primary from Group two and Skeldon Primary from Group one to the grand final slated for this Friday at the Crabwood Creek Ground.
At the end of the competition the winning team will receive $15,000 gift voucher, while the runner up will collect $10,000. These will go to the players to purchase stationary and school supplies.
The winning and runner up trophies will go to the respective schools. There will also be trophies and other incentives for the outstanding individual players.
The competition is being coordinated by the UCCA Competitions committee which is led by former national wicketkeeper batsman Sydney Jackman. (Samuel Whyte)
