After being on the run for nearly 18 months, a miner was yesterday charged and remanded to prison for the capital offence of murder.
Thirty-year-old Allen Fredericks of Golden City, Baramita Village, North West District, appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on September 8, 2016 at Perseverance Backdam, North West District, he murdered Orville Williams.
The unrepresented accused was remanded to prison and was instructed to make his next court appearance on February 7 when he will appear before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for assignment. Fredericks is the second person charged with the murder.
According to information, a party of police officers went to Big Creek Backdam, North West District and arrested the accused before subsequently escorting him to the Port Kaituma Police Station. He was then transported to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Adrian John, 19, was the first person to be charged and remanded to prison for the murder. John was charged on September 15, 2016, for the murder after he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. His matter was transferred to the Matthew’s Ridge Magistrate’s Courts.
