A taxi driver of Palmyra Village, Corentyne, Berbice was on Wednesday remanded to prison yesterday for possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Devash Reshiram, 20, of Lot 38 Palmyra Village appeared at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Rhondell Weaver.
The charge read that the accused on Monday January 29, last, was found to have in his possession some 10,000 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Reshiram, who was represented by Attorney-at-law, Joel Edmond, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Bail was subsequently denied. He is set to return to court on February 21, for the report.
According to the facts of the case, on Monday, Deputy Commander of B Division, Senior Superintendent, Edmond Cooper, and a party of policemen acting on information, nabbed Reshiram at Bath Village, West Coast Berbice.
Reshiram was at the time driving to Georgetown when he was stopped and busted.
The police had said that a search was carried out on the accused vehicle, a white Toyota 212 motorcar, PWW 3313 and five taped parcels containing suspected cannabis was discovered inside of a black shoulder bag on the back seat of the vehicle.
