DEAR EDITOR,
Now that in our dear land of Guyana, oil has been found and in a most timely manner, production will get underway, the Guyana Police Force networks must get in line with international standards on attitudes and strategies. I propose the following:-
(1) The attitudes of policemen and women must come under the microscope and there should be renewed courses.
(2) Uniforms, footwear and waistline belts must be updated. The waistline belts must be equipped to deal with all eventualities.
(3) More foot patrols in all villages and senior officers must come out on the ground and interact with the neighbourhoods on a monthly basis.
(4) Intensify regular campaigns (day & night) against motorbikes and pedal bicycles for road fitness and body searches.
Observing these simple strategies will see our citizens and visitors regaining trust and respect for as well as confidence in the Guyana Police Force. The ABC countries warning advisories on travel to Guyana will automatically ease, so the influx of smooth traveling in and out Guyana will once again be safe.
