Team Midas Touch, Coached by Andy Medas-King, founder and Organizer of the King Medas-Pansy Adonis Classic Foundation, qualified for the 111th Millrose Games set for the Armory in Manhattan on February 3. This track is considered the World’s fastest Indoor Hall of Fame track in the World.
The team includes Kcaysha Medas-King, Kayleigh Jameison, Alana Moore and Anissa Moore, all between 10 and 12 years old, was put together on the spot and made headlines.
Kcaysha Medas-King, who is not fully fit due to a hip injury and middle distance runner Kayleigh, ensured that the team did well. Anissa anchored the team to give them qualification before returning to win the 400m to qualify for the 12 and under event.
Kcaysha ran a well gauged 400m for an athlete who is now making a come-back from severe injury to place 10th overall in a heat the was decided by 100th of second.
Medas-King explained that this is the same success he is trying to bring to Guyana in the junior Olympic Games. The young Kunusasha Medas-King was also in action this time in the 55m dash for a spot in the finals for the 8 & under title of the fastest kid on the block, an accolade won by her sister Kcaysha in 2014 at the then 108th Millrose games.
“In the next Junior Olympic Games there will be an 8 & under, 100m race for the fastest child in Guyana so we can start identifying young talents like these in the USA,” said Medas-King.
“Its events like these that can bring that change to a country that have so much talent and I am encouraging more sponsors to come forward and help build this games into a nursery where we can take these talents to the next level,” continued Medas-king.
Medas-King stated that he was sure that had Guyana fielded a team with the time ran between 1:55 to 1; 57.17 for the 4×2 relays, he was sure that a youth team from Guyana could have made it.
With the New Balance Nationals coming up in March 9-11 Medas-King said he’s hoping to see a few teams from Guyana there in New York City.
“The organizers of New Balance have reached out to me about inviting a few athletes to the games and I am hoping that a few coaches would take up the offer and give a few high school and University athletes a shot at stardom and use that event as a warm up for the Junior Carifta Games and the other meets to follow,” Medas-King concluded.
