A fisherman and resident of Orealla Village, East Berbice, Corentyne was yesterday remanded to prison for the murder of his friend and ‘drinking partner’.
Stanley Edwards, 32, appeared at the Springlands Court before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh where the charge was read to him. It is alleged that on January 3, 2018 at Crabwood Creek Edwards murdered Sahadeo Sankar, a fisherman, of Crabwood Creek. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison until January 29.
According to the facts of the case, Sahadeo Sankar’s lifeless body was found on the bridge of a grocery shop in Crabwood Creek by the owners of the business. Edwards was arrested shortly after the body was found. Surveillance footage from the business reportedly saw Sankar running away from Edwards, who eventually caught up with him and was seen ‘cuffing and stabbing’ him (Sankar) until he fell to the ground.
