An ex-policeman killed one man and left three others injured after chopping one person before deliberately driving his bus into a crowd that was helping the individual he had wounded.
The incident occurred at around about 21:30 hrs last Saturday at Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara.
Dead is 44-year-old Amit Roy Jairam, of Meten-Meer-Zorg, while Premnaith Basdeo, 20, Randy Melville, 22 and Mohamed Ahamad, 43, also of Meten-Meer-Zorg, are admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The 54 year-old ex-policeman, who is also a minibus driver of Stewartville, West Coast Demerara, is in police custody.
The incident reportedly occurred after the ex-policeman got into a gambling dispute at an entertainment activity at Tarla Dam, Meten-Meer-Zorg.
Police said that after the argument, the ex-policeman went to his minibus BTT 5707, and returned with a cutlass and chopped Premnaith Basdeo on the head.
The ex-cop then entered his vehicle and drove into a crowd that was attending to the wounded Basdeo. Amit Roy Jairam, who was among those helping, sustained severe injuries.
Police said that the former rank then deliberately rammed his bus into Randy Melville, 22 and Mohamed Ahamad, who were also helping Basdeo.
The victims were rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) was they were treated and transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Jairam succumbed while receiving treatment at the GPHC.
