Senior Magistrate Leron Daly yesterday ruled that a prima facie case had been established against
prison escapee, Pascal Smith, for the murder of an Alexander Street, Georgetown resident, and committed him to stand trial at the next sitting of the Demerara Assizes.
Smith was told that he will face a judge and jury for the indictable offence after the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) concluded yesterday. It is alleged that on May 27 at Alexander Street, Georgetown, he murdered John Houston.
Smith was among 13 prisoners who dug their way out of the Lusignan Prison Holding area. He was recaptured in Kitty several days later, after a police rank had to go into a latrine to get him out.
