With hands and legs shackled, 47-year-old taxi driver Matthew Munroe was escorted into court at around 14. 45 hours today and charged for the murder of 22-year-old teacher Kescia Branche.
A perspiring and visibly nervous Munroe stood in the docks of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court as Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan read the charge and ordered him remanded to prison.
He is to return to court on January 9, 2018.
It is alleged that on November 7, in Georgetown, Munroe, of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, murdered Kescia Branche, a teacher.
The 22-year-old Branche was found badly battered in Louisa Row. She succumbed without regaining consciousness.
Munroe was arrested last week after returning from an overseas vacation. His car was also impounded.
The accused was represented by Attorney-at-Law George Thomas, who told the court that the investigation will show that his client was not in the area where the murder occurred.
