Dear Editor,
Donald Ramotar and a cohort of PPP members, supporters and sympathizers have the temerity to accuse this government of witch hunting and of targeting “hard working and professional Indo Guyanese”.
Public perception of this man has not changed over the course of time that he was out of office, so too have the words used to describe him when he was president: dishonest, an embarrassment and a puppet on a string; some speculated that there was a puppet master above Donald Ramotar when he was president.
But what is truly pathetic about his utterances is that he has conveniently forgotten ( or is it retrograde amnesia) his then government witch hunt and targeting of hard working and professional Guyanese in all government ministries as well as the overseas missions in 1992.
The PPP and its cohorts have two different song sheets from which they sing. When Guyanese like former minister of Public Service, Jennifer Westford, is before the courts as a result of what was unearthed by the forensic auditors and when Kwame McCoy and co-accused in Freddie Kissoon faeces assault are before the courts the song is: “the government is targeting members and supporters of the PPP”.
When some other Guyanese are before the courts because of the skullduggery that the forensic auditors uncovered the song is: the government is targeting Indo-Guyanese who are “hard working professionals who have mortgages and other expenses to honour and how would they honour these now that they are on the bread line”.
I will ask members of the public to compare the two “songs” and deduce the thinking of the PPP with regard to the aforementioned racial groups.
When the PPP fired people from the overseas missions and those who were in senior positions in all the government ministries and replaced them with Guyanese of one ethnic group, now that forensic auditors have uncovered skullduggery (except Ministry of Public Service) anybody with a brain would tell you that the people who were in charge since 1992 are the ones who would have to face the music. This is basic common sense reasoning. Do they want some other people to be the scapegoats?
It is the prerogative of any political party that assumes the reins of government for the first time to have forensic audits conducted by forensic auditors and whosoever was involved in wrongdoings they would have to face the consequences. This has nothing to do with race but with ethics. One of the things that came out of the forensic audit was that ethics went out the door and greed came in.
Incidentally, I don’t know that Guyana has superior and inferior races; what I do know is that some of us are more fortunate than others but it doesn’t mean that we are better than the less fortunate. Every race made significant contributions to human civilization; it is time that we overcome historical amnesia of African contributions to civilization.
